It is with sincere regret that we announce the cancellation of 805 Comic Con. After careful consideration and a thorough evaluation of event logistics, we have determined that there was not sufficient vendor participation to support the show at the level of quality and experience we strive to provide.

Over the past several years, I have worked diligently to secure the fairgrounds as a venue for an event. After hosting nine toy shows and receiving consistent feedback every year requesting things like a larger event space — particularly one with “better” lighting — we were finally able to move forward with plans to expand and bring this vision to life.

This event represented a significant step forward. However, producing a show of this size at the fairgrounds requires substantial financial investment and strong vendor commitment. Unfortunately, we did not receive the level of participation necessary to responsibly proceed.

I am incredibly proud of what I have accomplished through our previous nine shows and deeply grateful to everyone who has supported us along the way. When I launched Ventura County Toy Con in 2018, there was nothing like it happening in our area, and there hadn’t been for several years. My goal was simple — to create a space where vendors, collectors, and families could come together for a day of fun and community.

What many may not realize is the amount of personal time, effort, and sacrifice that went into making each show successful for both vendors and attendees. While there were challenges along the way, I always did my best to address concerns and improve the experience with each event.

As the world reopened, many new events began emerging in the area — particularly card shows — and that is a great thing for the community. We genuinely wish all local events continued success. However, with the growing number of shows and the realities of producing larger-scale events, I believe this is the right time for me to step back and allow others to continue building and hosting events in the area.

This upcoming event would have marked my tenth show, which made the vision for 805 Comic Con even more meaningful to me. I truly hoped to turn it into a new, fun-filled two-day experience for the geeks, nerds, collectors, and families in our community.

The reality is simple: without vendors, there is no show — no special guests, no attractions, and no event experience — only significant financial obligations. Moving forward under these circumstances would place an unsustainable financial burden on me personally and jeopardize my toy business and store that I have spent the past ten+ years building.

Thank you to everyone who has supported these events over the years. Your encouragement, participation, and enthusiasm have meant more than I can express.

This is not a goodbye. It is simply a step back — a necessary decision to refocus on areas that make stronger financial sense for both myself and my business at this time. I remain proud of what we built together and appreciative of the community that made it possible.
